Permaflex
Heritage Brands · National Advertising · Retail Activation
/ Overview
Established consumer brands can retain very high awareness while younger buyer penetration, category differentiation and retail relevance begin to weaken.
Permaflex needed to renew a nationally recognised heritage brand without losing the equity built with existing customers, while making the campaign work consistently across mass media, digital and its retail network.
The work focused on five issues: Low Younger Buyer Penetration, Heritage Relevance Erosion, Category Commoditisation, Media to Retail Disconnect and Distinctive Asset Inconsistency.
The resulting campaign connected Milo Manara, live action, animation and original music within one recognisable brand system across TV, digital and point of sale.

FIVE COMMERCIAL ISSUES
01 · LOW YOUNGER BUYER PENETRATION
Strong recognition among established customers did not automatically translate into the same relevance with a younger generation entering the category.
Applied: Audience Development Strategy · Intergenerational Positioning · Consumer Relevance Strategy · Brand Asset Modernisation
The campaign was developed to extend Permaflex beyond its established customer base while retaining the brand recognition accumulated over decades.
02 · HERITAGE RELEVANCE EROSION
Long standing brand equity was a major commercial asset, but heritage alone could not sustain contemporary relevance with new buyers.
Applied: Heritage Brand Repositioning · Heritage Equity Activation · Cultural Collaboration Strategy · Brand Narrative Strategy
Permaflex’s advertising heritage was brought into a contemporary cultural context through a collaboration with Milo Manara, giving existing brand equity a new expression rather than replacing it.
03 · CATEGORY COMMODITISATION
Mattress communication was increasingly concentrated around materials, technology, comfort claims, price and promotion, reducing meaningful differentiation between established manufacturers.
Applied: Category Reframing · Emotional Positioning · Brand Distinctiveness Strategy · Campaign Strategy · Creative Direction
The campaign established a proprietary creative territory capable of carrying the brand beyond functional product comparison.
04 · MEDIA TO RETAIL DISCONNECT
National media investment needed to remain recognisable when consumers moved from campaign exposure to digital research and the physical retail network.
Applied: National Campaign Strategy · Retail Network Activation · In Store Communication Strategy · Multi Channel Campaign Architecture · Digital Campaign Adaptation
The same campaign system was extended across TV, digital and in store communication, maintaining continuity between media exposure and point of sale.
05 · DISTINCTIVE ASSET INCONSISTENCY
Multiple campaign formats risked building separate visual and sonic memories instead of accumulating recognition around one brand.
Applied: Visual System Development · Motion Identity Design · Sound Identity Strategy · Original Music Direction · Asset Adaptation Strategy
Illustration, live action, animation and an original soundtrack were developed as connected distinctive assets, then adapted across the national campaign
