/ Overview

A privately owned Italian RF manufacturer, with engineering, production and testing in house, was already selling most of its output internationally. Buyers, distributors and technical specifiers searching by application, sector or technical requirement were seeing a much narrower company online than the one competing in international tenders and projects.

The review focused on five issues: Export Visibility Gap, Homepage Dependent Visibility, Incomplete Competitor Set, Fragmented Vertical Positioning and Invisible Innovation Heritage.

WØM analysed how the company appeared before tender participation, distributor enquiry and technical evaluation, across search, competitor categories, product applications and international buyer journeys.

The work identified where a global RF manufacturer was losing visibility despite strong engineering credentials, international projects and a product portfolio spanning air traffic control, land and naval communications, transport, PMR and distributed antenna systems.

THE CHALLENGE: FIVE COMMERCIAL ISSUES

01 · EXPORT VISIBILITY GAP

Most revenue already came from international markets, while online visibility and brand perception remained disproportionately local. Several important markets had little dedicated content, proof of experience or localised material.

Applied: Export Market Audit · International Brand Positioning · Global to Local Positioning · International SEO Strategy · Market Prioritisation · Localization Strategy · Evidence Strategy

Export data and geographic visibility were reviewed together to identify priority markets where the company’s commercial presence was stronger than its digital one.

02 · HOMEPAGE DEPENDENT VISIBILITY

The homepage captured most site traffic, leaving products, applications and solution pages with limited visibility across high intent technical searches.

Applied: Digital Visibility Audit · Search Landscape Analysis · Search Demand Mapping · Information Architecture · Application Architecture · Solution Content Architecture · AI Search Optimisation

The review identified where visibility needed to move beyond the corporate homepage into application, solution and vertical content aligned with actual buyer and engineer queries.

03 · INCOMPLETE COMPETITOR SET

Companies encountered in tenders and projects were only part of the competitive landscape. Different brands were controlling search results and AI answers during early stage technical research.

Applied: Competitive Landscape Analysis · Digital Competitor Mapping · AI Visibility Audit · Category Authority Strategy · Tender Visibility Strategy

Commercial competitors were assessed separately from the companies shaping digital discovery and category visibility.

04 · FRAGMENTED VERTICAL POSITIONING

Defence and public safety, airband and ATC, transport and tunnels, industrial PMR and mission critical infrastructure were established areas of activity, but their digital representation remained fragmented and product led.

Applied: Vertical Market Architecture · Solutions Positioning · Buyer Intent Research · Technical Content Strategy · Decision Support Content · Sales Enablement · Partner Enablement

The roadmap reorganised the digital model around real markets, applications and the technical questions buyers and engineers use during evaluation.

05 · INVISIBLE INNOVATION HERITAGE

The company carried a genuine connection with the history of radio innovation, yet that provenance had little role in its international corporate positioning.

Applied: Corporate Heritage Strategy · Provenance Positioning · Corporate Narrative Strategy · Digital Growth Roadmap

The heritage was identified as a credible international positioning asset for corporate communications, trade activity and sales material, with clear limits on how it should be used.
