/ Overview

A high end restaurant can reach pre opening with the location, investment and culinary direction already in place, while the concept remains too generic to guide positioning, menu development, guest experience and launch communication.

That was the starting point for Meraki Mykonos. An initial idea described as elegant and inspired by the Cyclades needed to become a distinctive restaurant proposition capable of competing within one of Europe’s most demanding seasonal hospitality markets.

The work focused on five issues: Undefined Dining Concept, Generic Cycladic Positioning, Weak Menu Architecture, Fragmented Guest Touchpoints and Low Editorial Distinctiveness.

WOM.digital developed the restaurant concept across positioning, naming, bilingual menu architecture, visual identity, table experience, art direction and editorial positioning.

Meraki became the operating concept for the opening, giving culinary direction, guest experience and communication one recognisable identity.

FIVE COMMERCIAL ISSUES

01 · UNDEFINED DINING CONCEPT

“Elegant” and “Cycladic” described an ambition, but gave the future restaurant no distinctive position, name or organising idea.

Applied: Restaurant Concept Development · Hospitality Positioning · Brand Concept Development · Value Proposition Design · Naming Strategy

Meraki, from the Greek concept of doing something with soul, creativity and care, became the central idea around which the restaurant could be developed.

02 · GENERIC CYCLADIC POSITIONING

Blue and white island codes could make the restaurant immediately recognisable as Greek while leaving it visually interchangeable with countless other Cycladic hospitality concepts.

Applied: Cultural Positioning · Category Code Analysis · Visual Positioning · Art Direction

The direction deliberately moved away from expected island imagery, using a black and white visual system, organic forms and more restrained cultural references.

03 · WEAK MENU ARCHITECTURE

An international restaurant needed the menu to work equally well for Greek and international guests while retaining ingredient, seasonality and cultural context.

Applied: Menu Architecture · Bilingual Menu Strategy · Menu Content Strategy · Seasonal Menu Communication

The Greek and English menu system introduced clearer hierarchy, seasonal ingredient emphasis and a structure capable of extending to additional markets.

04 · FRAGMENTED GUEST TOUCHPOINTS

Menu, table setting, print materials and visual identity could easily become separate design exercises instead of one recognisable restaurant experience.

Applied: Brand Identity Design · Table Experience Design · Guest Touchpoint Design · Service Environment Integration

Identity, menu materials, contemporary black cutlery, table styling and art direction were developed as one coordinated guest facing system.

05 · LOW EDITORIAL DISTINCTIVENESS

A high end restaurant in a heavily photographed destination needed enough visual and cultural character to interest editors and concept buyers beyond conventional tourism imagery.

Applied: Culinary Narrative Strategy · Editorial Positioning · Press Readiness Strategy · International Brand Positioning · Brand System Scalability

The concept was developed around visual restraint, seasonal ingredients, culinary craftsmanship and Cycladic cultural context, with editorial audiences explicitly included in the positioning.
